Standard Weapons:

  • Primary - Sasha(Minigun)
The Minigun (known affectionately as 'Sasha') is the primary weapon for the Heavy class. It is listed as a Level 1 Minigun in the loadout menu. High damage per bullet combined with an extremely high rate of fire makes the Minigun one of the most powerful weapons in the game. The weapon requires approximately one second of spin-up time before it starts to fire. To keep the spin going and ready to fire at a moment's notice without wasting ammo or time, the special function key may be held down (default: Mouse2/Left Trigger [360]/L2 [PS3]). When either spinning or firing, the Heavy's movement speed is slowed considerably (to 27% speed), while spinning or firing while crouched, you cannot move. The Minigun has a large cone of fire and individual bullets suffer damage falloff with range as well, it fires 10 ammo per second. For each 1 ammo, the gun fires 4 bullets, if all 200 ammo count is fired then that equals to 800 bullets.
  • Secondary - Shotgun
The Shotgun is the primary weapon for the Engineer, and the secondary weapon for the Soldier, Pyro, and Heavy. It is listed in the loadout menu for all of them as a Level 1 Shotgun. It fires fairly rapidly, 10 bullets per 1 ammo, every 0.6 seconds, and can deliver high damage at close range but has a high damage falloff. As the Engineer's most powerful weapon, he uses it primarily for defending his Dispenser or Teleporter and for engaging an enemy attempting to exploit a weakness in his Sentry Gun. The Pyro uses his shotgun for engaging targets unreachable by his Flamethrower and the Soldier will generally rely on the shotgun if his rockets have been expended, or to otherwise preserve rockets for when they are more needed. The shotgun is also a useful weapon to equip if the Heavy is running from point to point.
  • Melee - Fists

The melee weapons of the Heavy class are his massive Fists. Dealing significant damage, his fists are an alternative to the Shotgun when an opponent is at close range and the Heavy's Minigun is out of ammo. Alternatively, the fists may be used to attack enemies within melee range if the wind-up time for the minigun is too costly.

When the Heavy dies with his fists out, he drops his minigun, which can be picked up for ammo.

By default, left clicking throws a left-handed punch and right clicking throws a right-handed punch (this has no effect on gameplay). Critical hit punches appear as a right-handed uppercut animation.

Taunting with your Fists equipped will activate the special Showdown taunt attack.

Unlockable Weapons:

  • Primary - Natascha

Natascha is the second unlockable weapon for the Heavy that replaces the Minigun and is unlocked after completing 16 Heavy achievements. Natascha is listed as a Level 5 Minigun in the loadout menu. She allows him to slow enemies with her bullets. Enemies taking damage from her will find themselves moving slower for an instant, encouraging them to find cover or deal with the Heavy. Unfortunately, her firepower is 25% weaker than that of normal Minigun, so the Heavy will find it takes longer to finish enemies off, combined with damage falloff and a large cone of fire its best to fire at close range. As a result, Natascha's great to use against those that want to get away, like Scouts & Medics, and not so great against those trying to kill you. Heavies that like to jump around corners to surprise groups of enemies will also find it very useful, because Natascha makes a noticeably quieter (yet distinct) sound than the normal Minigun. Before you do that, though, it's best to make sure there isn't a Sasha-wielding Heavy there. It's also easier to Spy check, as any friendly that gets slowed down when shot is a Spy. The Natascha like the minigun fires 10 ammo per second. For each 1 ammo, the gun fires 4 bullets, if all 200 ammo count is fired then that equals to 800 bullets. This is refered to as the Minifun within the games files, this could have originally been it's intended name.

Slowing Effect: As of March 5th, 2009, each bullet that hits instantly slows the target by a small amount, stacking until the victim's speed is reduced to a minimum of approximately 113 units per second.

  • Secondary - Sandvich
It consists of two triangular slices of bread with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, ham, and bologna in between. The Sandvich is an unlockable replacement for the Heavy's shotgun once 10 Heavy achievements are earned. When eaten, it replenishes 120 HP over four seconds. The decision to eat a Sandvich must not be taken lightly; the Heavy is completely vulnerable and very loud during the eating process (NOM NOM NOM OM NOM). The Heavy's Sandvich supply is unlimited, so his only real concern is being caught short while enjoying the delicious edible device.

In terms of weapon choice, the Sandvich is a great tool for area defense, as it gives the Heavy the ability to replenish health between enemy waves without having to abandon his post. Similarly, an offensive Heavy without a Medic can step back from the front line and grab a quick snack before resuming his rampage. However, enemies at range are far more dangerous, especially Snipers, and if the Heavy runs out of Minigun ammo with the Sandvich equipped, he is left with only melee for offense. Note that you cannot use the Sandvich while underwater, as this will cause the Sandvich to become wet and unsavory.

  • Melee - K.G.B (Killing Gloves of Boxing)
It is unlocked after you have gained 22 Heavy achievements. When the Heavy kills an enemy with the K.G.B he is guaranteed critical hits for the next 5 seconds, and can kill additional enemies to further lengthen the boost time. This power-up also crosses over with other weapons, such as the shotgun, so the Heavy could kill an enemy with the K.G.B and then take out his shotgun to blast away enemies from range. However, the K.G.B has a 20% slower swinging speed, and coupled with the Heavy's slow movement speed makes this tactic risky.
